Please check Turnitin.com for the revision assignments for the weekly poems. They are all almost posted for all classes. I am still working on the two most recent poems for 1b and 2a.

Pay attention to the deadlines – they are either Dec. 21 or Dec. 22.

You only need to complete these revision assignments if you received a zero for not writing in complete paragraphs.

You will submit your revision through the Turnitin.com revision assignment that is attached to the original version. Look in Turnitin.com and you will see what I mean. Only complete this revision if you received a zero for your original submission due to not writing in paragraph format. This is not for those who did not do the assignment in the first place.

Now that you have been warned, any future analyses that you turn in without paragraphs are at risk of a permanent zero or massive point deduction.

Song of Solomon Journal Entry Directions

I am currently working on the reading schedule for Song of Solomon, but here are the directions for the type of journal you will complete for this novel. You will also answer questions for each chapter. I have provided the questions for chapter one below for you.

Journal Instructions

You must complete one of the following options for each chapter assigned. In the end, you will have 15 journal entries.

  1. Comment in 3 sentences what you think is the significance of an event in the chapter. What implications does it have on further or past events in the book? Does it reveal or explain something previously overlooked or hidden?
  2. Ask 3 questions about an event or chapter that confused you. Push yourself and try to answer your questions after reviewing.
  3. Comment in 3 sentences on a quote you think held a deeper meaning.
  4. Describe your reactions to a character, event, action or idea in the chapter.
  5. Talk about the relationships characters have with one another, use textual evidence to support your opinion.
  6. Get inside one of the characters heads. Tell how the character feels about themselves, about other characters, situations.
  7. Discuss a theme or motif that you recognize in the chapter. Think about why it is occurring or reappearing when it does. What is the significance of it in that chapter?

Chapter One

  1. Consider the following important elements of this chapter: Robert Smith’s attempt to fly; Not Doctor Street; the song “O Sugarman done fly away;” Milkman’s birth; the water mark on the Deads’ dining room table; Porter’s drunken actions.
  2. Why does Ruth Dead continue to breastfeed Milkman?
  3. How are names chosen for the dead family?
  4. Why is Dr. Foster relieved to have a suitor for Ruth?
  5. Why does Macon enjoy hearing Pilate and her family sing as he listens outside?

Wuthering Heights AP Essay Revision Directions

A-Day students received their essays back this morning. B Day students will receive their essays back on Monday morning. 

Part 1 – Questions to ask as your edit and revise your paper. This is in addition to correcting common errors:

  • Is there a thesis?
  • Is the thesis clear?
  • Does the essay address the entire prompt?
  • What is missing? What can be added to make the essay more powerful?
  • Does the essay make sense?

Part 2 – 

  • Add one quote/textual evidence to each of your body paragraphs. Include it in your analysis in how that quote supports your argument.
  • Underline your Thesis Statement.
  • If you add a section/sentence/word, then bold it.
  • If you subtract anything, type that part up in parenthesis and do a strikethrough of it.
  • I want to see all of your changes & edits, this will be a part of your grade.
  • Complete your revisions of your Wuthering Heights Essay and submit to Turnitin.com by Dec. 14(A)/15(B)

  • Read Act 5 of Hamlet and complete your logs.
  • Complete any revisions of your Weekly Poem analysis.
  • Answer the Piercing Questions for “O What a Rogue” (Submit on Google Classroom)
  1. It is obvious to the audience or reader that Hamlet is alone onstage. What else, then, could he mean when he begins, “Now I am alone”?
  2. Why is the Prince calling himself a “rogue” and a “peasant slave”?
  3. Hamlet compares himself to the player. What does this comparison reveal about Hamlet’s self-perception?
  4. Throughout Hamlet, much violence is done to ears. How does Hamlet’s “cleave the general ear” relate to other “ear” references? Shakespeare uses the word ear 27 times in this play. Do any of these resonate with you?
  5. Hamlet uses a lot of theatrical terminology in his speech. Find some examples (“cue,” “stage,” “play”). Why might Hamlet be thinking in theatrical terms?
  6. Find lines or phrases that explain why Hamlet thinks himself a coward. Do you think he is a coward. Do you think he is a coward, or is he acting cautiously by looking for external evidence to prove Claudius’s guilt?
